Gavin Casalegno was born on September 2, 1999 in Dallas, Texas. He is the oldest of three siblings and is of Italian descent. He grew up in the Dallas suburb of Lucas and attended Lovejoy High School.

A family friend suggested modelling when he was four, he soon booked a JCPenney catalog shoot and appeared in commercials for Sony and Papa John’s. He studied acting at Cathryn Sullivan’s Acting Studio in Lewisville, Texas and balanced school with auditions, sometimes traveling to New York and Los Angeles for commercials and casting calls (per interviews). During middle school, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue bigger opportunities. Raised in a Christian household, he often speaks about his faith and credits it with keeping him grounded.
