Day 8 went the hosts’ way. Canada won a World Cup match for the first time in its history, routing nine-man Qatar 6-0 in Vancouver behind a Jonathan David hat trick, a result that sent the Canadians to the top of Group B. Later, Mexico became the first team to reach the Round of 32, edging South Korea 1-0 on Luis Romo’s goal just after halftime. Switzerland beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 in the early game, and Czechia and South Africa drew 1-1, leaving both with work to do in Group A.
Today the spotlight swings to the United States. Both the USMNT and Australia won their openers, so this afternoon’s meeting in Seattle is effectively a fight for first place in Group D, with the winner all but booked into the knockouts. And as on Thursday, an antenna covers most of the day: three of today’s four games are on big FOX.
3 p.m. ET: USA vs. Australia, FOX
The United States opens the second round of group games at Lumen Field in Seattle, and the math is simple. The USMNT beat Paraguay 4-1, Australia upset Türkiye 2-0, and both sit on three points, so the winner here takes control of Group D with a game to spare. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be favored at home, but Australia is well organized and just showed it can grind out a clean-sheet win.
The big question is Christian Pulisic. The captain hurt his left calf in the opener, came off at halftime against Paraguay, and has trained on his own all week, which leaves him a real doubt for Seattle. Pochettino has stayed vague about it, hinting Pulisic could be held back for the Türkiye game if he is not right, so the team sheet about an hour before kickoff is the thing to watch. If he sits, Sebastian Berhalter is the likely man to come in, with Brenden Aaronson and Gio Reyna also options. Folarin Balogun leads the line either way.

6 p.m. ET: Scotland vs. Morocco, FOX
Group C takes over at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, and there is plenty riding on it. Scotland is the early pacesetter after a 1-0 win over Haiti, while Morocco, one of the genuine dark horses this summer, drew its opener with Brazil and will be chasing a first win to keep pace. A Scotland win would open real daylight at the top.

8:30 p.m. ET: Brazil vs. Haiti, FOX
The biggest name on tonight’s card is in Philadelphia, and it has some catching up to do. Brazil, the record five-time champion, was held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in its opener, a stumble that put early pressure on a team most people expected to win Group C comfortably. Vinícius Júnior is the man Brazil’s attack runs through, and a big game from him is the quickest way back on track.
Haiti is the other side of the story, and just being here is an achievement. This is its first World Cup since 1974, its only previous trip to the tournament, and it pushed Scotland before losing 1-0 in its opener. Brazil is heavily favored at Lincoln Financial Field, but Haiti has already shown it will not roll over.

11 p.m. ET: Türkiye vs. Paraguay, FS1
The nightcap from Santa Clara is a Group D elimination match in everything but name. Türkiye and Paraguay both lost their openers, Türkiye to Australia and Paraguay to the United States, so whoever loses here is all but out with a match still to play. Türkiye will lean on young playmaker Arda Güler to finally get its tournament going.
How to watch: FS1, which makes it the one game today an antenna alone will not get. You will need FOX One, a live-TV service like YouTube TV, or a cable login. Telemundo and Universo have it in Spanish, free over the air.

Saturday is a European-heavy slate. Netherlands vs. Sweden opens it at 1 p.m. on FOX from Houston, then the headliner, Germany vs. Ivory Coast, follows at 4 p.m. on FOX from Toronto, with Germany arriving after putting seven past Curaçao in its opener. The two late games move to FS1, Ecuador vs. Curaçao at 8 p.m. and Tunisia vs. Japan after that, so the FS1 share grows as the night goes on. The two big ones stay on FOX.
Looking further out, Spain and Lamine Yamal are back Sunday, and the heavyweights return early next week, starting Monday with Lionel Messi‘s Argentina, fresh off an opening hat trick that drew Messi level with Miroslav Klose’s all-time World Cup scoring record.
Mexico and Canada took care of business on Thursday. Now it is the United States’ turn.
